Special Needs > Code of Practice

The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice is aimed at those responsible for providing education and support to children with special needs.

The Code of Practice is a guide for nurseries, state schools and local education authorities (LEAs) on the help they give to your child. Schools and LEAs must take account of the Code when they deal with a child with special educational needs. It also gives guidance to local health services and social services.

The Code supports the main aim of helping your child learn and to reach their full potential, to be included fully in their school communities and make a successful transition to adulthood.

In doing this, your views – and the views of your child - should always be taken into account.

You can get a free copy of the SEN Code of Practice.
