Mental Health & Wellbeing - Parental Mental Health

In any year in the UK, about one in four people experience mental health problems. These range from the worries and grief that most people experience at some time to suicidal thoughts and losing touch with reality.

Your mental health

Being in good shape mentally helps you deal with the pressures you face as a parent and helps you provide your child with the care and support they need. If you are worried about your own mental health, seeking help early gives you the best chance of recovery. Visit your GP or contact one of the organisations below.

  • Samaritans offers confidential emotional support 24-hours a day by telephone on 08457 90 90 90 or by email: jo@samaritans.org
  • The Mental Health Foundation has information on different sources of help and has a website (listed below)
  • Mind runs the MindinfoLine on 0845 766 0163 (Mon–Fri, 9.15am–5.15pm), providing information and support. Interpreters are available in more than 100 languages and the line also provides advice to deaf or speech-impaired enquirers.
